Materiologies: Making Links: Crystallization dress

Some Artwork from my Materiologies Series

Hydrological Filtration, Sequestration, 2007

Reverse Rain Machine, 2007

Mythological Water Cycle, 2009

I'm starting to see links between drawing concepts and styles, and my clothing. In the same way clothing is produced and displayed in a collection, I place a strong importance on the serial aspect of my artwork. Perhaps one day there will be a Mythological Materiologies Fashion show, or Opera. I'm excited to watch a Ballets Russes film I got from the library today.

A work in Progress: Taffeta Cyborg-chic.

mmmmmm...grey felt, silver lining...

I'm so excited about this and it isn't even done. There is some hemming do do, and there's going to be an optional belt which will cinch the front and leave a full back.

I'm going to put this on a boy and come up with some alterations for a unisex version... grrrr.

winter adventure hoods for the fashion show?

Welcome to the world Ghost Shirt

This was my very first time working with Chiffon. It's very much like drawing and I like to see the guts of a piece inside and out, not to mention wearing see through clothes. I am looking forward to making this in other colours for the fashion show.

La Robe Ballet Russe

Front fitted, "carapace-back" dress with dropped back hem.

This is one of those ugly prints I fall in love with and I tell myself not to buy. It reminds me of a early modernist office painting, and of Picasso at the Ballet.

I'll admit to stuffing the back of the dress for this photo to show the delicious potential for movement in this dress.

Also, meet my new Dress Form "Esther", no more awkward self portraits!

Terrariums

I've been obsessively making terrariums for over a year now. A new bunch will be available at Royal Bison and they are currently available at Nokomis on Whyte Avenue (including the big one below). I've had great feedback on the ones I sold last year. I'll be posting photos of exactly what will be available at the fair soon and you can let me know which ones to hold!

The last few weeks work

This Melton Wool Skirt is one of the pieces I will be producing for the Royal Bison Art and Craft Fair. I love felt.

Here are some photos of my recent commissions on my trusty "Adjust-o-matic Dress Form" and some modeled by myself and my lovely friends.

Painting

La Fabrique also likes to paint. This is the beginning of a series that was supposed to be of chairs, but turned into paintings of dresses that I have made. This is the closest I will ever come to paintings the figure again since I finished school. I tend to work with furniture as still-life, but this series is giving me insight into the nature of the objects I like to paint.

Four dress paintings are showing at The Artery as of last night, the opening of the City Market Apartment Art show, Or What!?!, is this Friday night!

La Fabrique Construction Drawings

As objects, my pieces are formally line-based and sculptural. This style of drawing is how I design.
